Yen Bai is a mountainous province, located in the geographic and economic center of northern midland and mountainous region of Viet Nam, sharing border with Lao Cai province in the North, Son La province in the West, Phu Tho province in the South and Tuyen Quang province in the East. The total land area of the province is 6886.28 km square. It ranks the 8th about land scale in comparison with 12 provinces in the Northern midland and mountainous region.
The province has nine administrative units including Tram Tau, Mu Cang Chai, Van Chan, Van Yen, Luc Yen, Tran Yen , Yen Binh, Yen Bai city and Nghia Lo town; comprising of 180 communes, wards and townships.
With its geographical position as the gateway to the Northwest region, Yen Bai province is located on the midpoint of the key economic corridor of Kunming - Lao Cai – Ha Noi – Haiphong. With relatively diversified transport system which has created favorable conditions and opportunities for Yen Bai to promote integration and trade and economic exchanges, cultural and social development ... not only with the provinces in the region, the big economic centers throughout the country but also international economic relations, especially with the southwestern provinces of China and ASEAN countries.
