Yen Bai has total natural land area of 6886.28 km2. Yen Bai province has strengths to develop wood processing industry and forestry products, with the natural forest area of 231,563.7 hectares, plantation forest area of 174,667.1 ha, exploitable output reaches nearly 200,000 m3 of types of wood such as: acacia, linden, eucalyptus ... and over 120,000 tons of different bamboo.
Total tea area of Yen Bai province is 11.450 ha, output of fresh tea bud obtains around 90. 812 tones with the concentrated tea region in Van Chan district of 4,170 ha, Tran Yen of 1,954 ha, and Yen Binh of 1,925 ha. Yen Bai province has the largest area of cinnamon with the best quality in Viet Nam, with an area of 30,000 hectares, cinnamon is mostly planted in the districts of Van Yen (16,000 ha), Tran Yen district (6,600 ha) and Van Chan district (5,000 ha). Annual harvested output gains from 2000-3000 tons of dried cinnamon bark/year. The area of cassava in the province is about 15,000 hectares, output reaches around 300,000 tons/year, cassava is mainly planted in the districts: Van Yen (over 6,400 hectares), Yen Binh (over 3,300 hectares).
